Myth Busters
Hi All,
How many of you are finding yourselves getting lost in what you are doing?
How many times have you been in your living room, playing around, only to get lost in the evenings festivities?
I have found myself here on many occasions, especially since we self-quarantined.
Usually, these are the night’s that Beckett will not go to bed EASILY.
I find that I have taken a little ‘time-out’ for me only to be met with more challenges in every other department of life, i.e. dinner, bath, teeth brushing, reading and in general our nightly routine.
So, let’s start by getting our Wiggles Out!
Let’s assess your pre and post dinner plans.
What are you doing before dinner and therefore what is left to be done, post-dinner?
On the nights that things run smoothly, we have biked around the neighborhood or cul-de-sac several times. We have completed our various arts & crafts projects. Gotten our outdoor time near the pool and Beckett’s play fountain. We have enjoyed some reading breaks as well as a short program or two on Nickelodeon.
The Key, for us, is to be getting as much done before dinner as possible!
It’s sooo easy to get lost in time now that we are practicing self-quarantine on the regular. Everyone is home and perhaps some of our space + boundaries are going right out the window! Phew… Ok, I said it.
Now that we are working within limits, it’s time to set up a kind and effective way to re-implement our boundaries… and this includes our own schedule boundaries as well.
I noticed when I got back-to-basics and re-visited our structure, even going as far as to set a timer to ensure I did not look up at the clock realizing it was already 7:30 p.m., that this has helped immensely.
Beckett has responded by going to sleep like a dream 😴 again.
So, I guess when we get off-schedule our children do too! Makes sense doesn't it?
When I am lacking motivation to do it again and the days seem to be running together, even faster than ever before… I remind myself that my most treasured part of our day is reading to him in the rocker - both during the day, before nap, as well as at night, before bed.
It is a great opportunity to remind myself when I am struggling to stay on schedule that this is actually our pastime! We both revel in having this uninterrupted amusement together.
It has become our solace, a part of our peacefulness in our home, our sanctuary.
So, what are some things that you are doing to stay “on schedule” during this time where we are all very undefined at the moment?
Sending endearing warmth & tranquility from our house to yours!
XO, Lora
